Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Paraprofessional/Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide 1-on-1 support to students with special needs.

Work Hours: Typical schedule: 8:15 AM - 3:45 PM.

Basic Responsibilities:

The PCA will work closely with students to offer both behavior and academic support, assist in implementing effective educational programs assigned by their case manager, and meet the special needs of students with disabilities. Duties will include but are not limited to feeding, toileting, positioning, and monitoring health conditions.

Essential Functions:

• Instructional Support: Provide instruction as directed by the teacher in cognitive, gross and fine motor skills, feeding skills, self-help skills, and behavior control.
• Health & Safety: Assist the teacher in maintaining the health and safety of physically handicapped students by being aware of the environment and potential hazards.
• Personal Hygiene: Assist students with personal hygiene, including washing hands and faces, toileting, and changing diapers and clothing as needed.
• Behavior Monitoring: Monitor and control student behavior in accordance with established guidelines.
• Physical Development: Assist other specialists with physical development activities.
• Mainstream Preparation: Prepare students for mainstream classes according to established procedures.
• Medical & Instructional Training: Attend periodic and special training and in-services related to medical interventions and instructional programs as required.
• Orthopedic Assistance: Assist students with braces and other orthopedic equipment to lift, position, and reposition students as needed.
• Record Maintenance: Assist in maintaining various records related to student progress.
• Behavior Support: Implement positive behavior intervention support policies.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with case workers, general education teachers, and other staff as necessary.
• Social Interactions: Assist students in social interactions.
• Cooperation & Independence: Work cooperatively with others and independently as needed.
• Additional Duties: Perform other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.

Required Knowledge & Abilities:

• First Aid & CPR: Knowledge of first aid and CPR procedures.
• Record-Keeping: Basic record-keeping techniques.
• English Proficiency: Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Paraprofessional or similar role.
• Reliable transportation.
